Brides (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
A 14 track film scores album (34m 57s) — released November 7th 2025 on Sight Unseen
Brides (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) featuring music by award winning composer Alex Baranowski (The Kitchen, Frauds, True Things, Midas Man).
BRIDES is the debut feature by Nadia Fall, artistic director of the Young Vic Theatre in London. Premiering at Sundance Film Festival in January 2025, the film was released UK cinemas in September 2025. It was produced by Oscar nominated Nicky Bentham (Neon Films).
The score was written and recorded in Alex's London studio, with frequent collaborator Maddie Cutter performing solo cello alongside a palette of instruments including an Indian harmonium, distorted vocals, bass guitar, vintage synthesisers and delicate strings. Increasingly known for his love of tape machines and old sound equipment, much of the score is processed through analogue loops which give this score its distinctive sound.
A coming-of-age story about two British Muslim girls who run away to join ISIS in Syria, inspired by the real life story of Shamim Begum, it is told from the perspective of the girls, eliciting empathy rather than judgement - ISIS itself is never mentioned in the film, nor what happens next - instead we watch their journey to Syria whilst their story is revealed in flashbacks. The film explores themes of adolescent alienation, identity, friendship, loyalty and the desperate search for belonging.
The score is available digitally, released on Alex's own Sight Unseen label.

His work in commercial and shorts has seen him score shorts for WES ANDERSON (H&M) and TAIKA WAITITI (Coca Cola) as well as GILLIAN ANDERSON'S directorial debut short film THE DEPARTURE. He also worked alongside the ROALD DAHL estate and director Sam Brown for a short featuring the beloved BFG, recorded at Abbey Road, for Sainsbury's 2024 Christmas campaign.
Alex has also collaborated with musicians including Mercury Prize winning THE XX (with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and live at the Hollywood Bowl), JUNGLE, PETER HOOK (Joy Division), UNDERWORLD, Young Musician of the Year winner JESS GILLAM and virtuoso violinists DANIEL HOPE and ANGÉLE DUBEAU (the latter releasing an album consisting of Alex's catalogue of work for film and dance).
He was nominated as Breakthrough Composer of the Year by the International Film Music Critics Association, and his most recent artist release is an EP recorded at London's AIR Studios Hall entitled ALL WILL PASS.
Music by Alex Baranowski trusts the story and works with it, never stating itself at the cost of the delicate balance built up by Fall in this notable debut. - Screen Daily https://www.screendaily.com/reviews/brides-sundance-review/5200868.article
